Downhole Operation

CNPC has more than 1,800 downhole operation crews and a complete range of downhole equipment including workover rig, well-pulling machine, special vehicles, shallow-sea workover barge, etc. We are capable of providing operations and services such as well intervention, overhaul, sidetrack drilling, fracturing and acidizing, and formation testing. Our customers are from over ten countries and regions including China, Kazakhstan, Sudan, Indonesia, Uzbekistan and Venezuela.

In 2017, our 1,845 crews completed 110,844 well-times of downhole operations and 9,237 layers of formation testing.

Snubbing operations

Our snubbing operations at oil and water wells were supported by maintenance and overhaul equipment, and our unique tripping under pressure, drifting, fishing, milling, sand washing, and perforation technologies. We have the capability to work over water, oil, and gas wells at the maximum pressure of 20MPa, 15MPa, and 13.6MPa, respectively.

Domestically, use of snubbing operation technology, initially employed in Liaohe and Jilin oilfields, was expanded to Daqing, Xinjiang, Changqing, Huabei, Dagang, and Tuha oilfields, achieving excellent results in conserving energy, minimizing greenhouse gas emissions, protecting hydrocarbon reservoirs, and benefiting production per individual well. Snubbing operations were further rolled out.

Well intervention

We provide intervention services for ultra-deep wells, hydrogen sulphide well, coal-bed methane wells, and wells with deep electric submersible pumps and screw pumps. A number of environmentally friendly methods are adopted to prevent land pollution resulting from waste oil and produced water. These methods are focused on intra- and annulus fluid control and wellhead overflow control.

Overhaul and sidetrack drilling

We provide overhaul services for deep wells, special oil/water wells and horizontal wells, etc, and directional sidetrack drilling for oil/water wells. Well configuration and well path control of sidetrack drilling horizontal wells and short-radius stepped horizontal wells can be ensured by using our unique windowing and sidetrack drilling technologies.

Fracturing and acidizing

CNPC is capable of providing optimized 2D, pseudo-3D and 3D designs as well as fracture simulation, diagnosis and analysis of formation, fracturing fluid optimization, design of fracturing process and parameters and performance evaluation. Acidizing fluid systems, such as gelling acid, have been developed. The weighted acids driven coiled tubing acidizing technique has been successfully applied in well 005-H3 of Southwest Oil & Gas Fields.
