Major breakthroughs in the industrial test of horizontal well staged-fracturing with totally soluble bridge plug

Horizontal multi-stage stimulated reservoir volume (SRV) fracturing with totally soluble bridge plug were successfully conducted in a number of oil and gas fields in China, effectively addressing the drawbacks of traditional drillable bridge plug, such as high plug cost, high operational risk and long commissioning cycle.

Highlights:

  • High strength soluble material technology enabled the soluble metal material system with compressive strength of 600MPa, and the soluble high molecular material system with temperature resistance of 50-150℃ and pressure resistance of 90MPa.
  • Prefabricated fragment soluble slip technology ensured the pressure-bearing reliability of bridge plug and self-breaking after fracturing.
  • Bionic structure and material component optimization technology for precise solution rate control of bridge plug were developed for controlled solution process at different sections in a well, and the specific fracturing method of different blocks and fields. The technology features infinite fracturing, lower risk, zero formation damage and zero environment pollution, and rapid solving. As a result, the operating cost was reduced by 1/3, and efficiency improved by 50%. The manufacturing cost of the totally soluble bridge plug is about the same as that of traditional bridge plugs in scale production.

Shale gas reservoir fracturing with totally soluble bridge plug was first applied in Platform 204H11 in Weiyuan gas field. A maximum of 25 stages were fractured with the pumping pressure up to 86MPa, and an average daily output of 275,000 cubic meters. Nearly 10 million RMB was saved only for plug cost, and the operation risks were significantly reduced.
