Major breakthrough in gas pipeline full-scale burst testing technology

A full-scale pipeline burst testing ground with a maximum diameter of 1,422mm and a maximum pressure of 20MPa completed. Three successful burst tests, the first of this kind in Asia, for high steel grade and large diameter gas pipelines conducted.

Highlights:

  • Completion of simulation calculation under various testing conditions, and calculation for the structure and process of the double-pipe testing system. Independent completion of engineering, construction and operation of the testing ground.
  • Research on the sensors for the measuring of pipeline fracture rate, decompression wave and other parameters. Development and application of high-speed 600 data continuous acquisition devices with data synchronization.
  • Development and application of automatic ignition devices for natural gas cloud cluster and linear shaped charge cutter for pipeline burst initiation.
  • Complete set of pipeline full-scale gas burst testing techniques developed with relevant specifications as well as data analysis and processing technology.
  • Completion of three full-scale burst tests by using natural gas as the medium for Φ1422mm X80 12MPa straight seam steel pipe, Φ1422mm X80 13.3MPa spiral welded steel pipe, and Φ1219mm X90 12MPa welded pipe, with the latter two tests ranking the first in the world.

This technology filled the blank for research on full-scale fracture behaviors of high pressure and high steel grade gas pipelines and the environmental impact of pipeline burst in China.
